Less suffering is still more suffering than anybody should be willing to accept

In the world of veterinary medicine, most people are happy if they improve the welfare of animals. Unfortunately however, improving the situation doesn't necessarily mean solving the situation. In fact, it almost never means this and I am obliged to point out that getting people who punch and kick children to stop kicking them is also an improvement. As is getting people who beat and verbally bully women to stop beating them.
